Japanese musicians to perform in Nepal (Kantipur News)

KATHMANDU, NOV 25 – Japanese music and concert will be performed in Kathmandu this week with a view to promoting the cultural relations between Nepal and Japan.
Singer and composer billy ban ban, one of the most popular contemporary Japanese folk song groups, is arriving tomorrow to present two days performance of the Japanese concert in Kathmandu. The Japanese concert group has created its distinctive style of music based around acoustic instruments and have touched the hearts of millions of Japanese irrespective of age and sex for more than three decade, according to the Japanese Embassy.
The group is comprised of the Sugawara brothers: Takashi Sugawara as a vocalist and Susumu Sugawara as a vocalist and guitarist. They made their debut as singers in 1969 with a record ‘ Shiroi Buranko’ or white swing which was a big hit instantly becoming a million seller for months.Susumu was awarded with a gold medal in Cannu International TV Advertisement Festival for the Marvelous song, which he had composed for the leading whisky company in Japan. During the last 30 years, billy ban ban has released more than 16 records and CD albums and has composed and sung more than 20 songs for TV advertisements.
They have appeared in numerous televisions and radio programmes and their music as well as pleasant personality has impressed millions of Japanese, it is said.
In 2000, the group was invited as good will envoy of song to the sultanate of Oman as the first Japanese to play together with the Royal Symphony Orchestra on the 30th anniversary of the National Foundation Day of the country.
Cultural secretary at the Japanese Embassy Matsumura Shinichi said that the performance of the famous Japanese music concert in Kathmandu will help promote the cultural ties between Nepal and Japan.
