JAAN observes annual function (Kantipur Daily)
KATHMANDU, DEC 26 – Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Alumni Association Nepal (JAAN) observed its 30th annual function here today.
Tara Nath Ranabhat, Speaker of the House of Representatives, said, “Japan has always been a good friend of Nepal during hard times.” He said during the establishment of democracy in the country Japan had provided moral support. He also wished that Japan would put global pressure to the Maoists to surrender the arms.
Elaborating the activities conducted by the JAAN, Dilli Ratna Shakya, General Secretary said, “JAAN has been helping to exchange ideas and technology between the two countries.” He said the development of traffic transport system, Japanese language teaching and capacity building of journalists and high-ranking officials of the ministry were some of the major activities conducted by JAAN.
Zenji Kaminaga, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, said, “Education is the major component necessary for the development of any county.” He said Japan has been focusing the educational development in the country. He said besides the establishment of over 2000 classrooms in the fiscal year 2002, Japan had accepted 1,280 experts and 3,003 trainees.
Chief guest Ranabhat also released the annual magazine of JAAN, ‘Milan’ and also awarded letter of appreciation to Keiko Yoshika, a Japanese language instructor in the country.
