Japan to provide 43.1M to Nepal (Gorkhapatra)

The Government of Japan Thursday agreed to provide a grant assistance of about Rs.43.1 million (Japanese Yen 50 million) to the Government of Nepal for the implementation of the project for the construction of the Nepalthok-Khurkot section of the Banepa Sindhuli Road.
Agreement to this effect and a separate grant agreement were signed and exchanged between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Japan at the Ministry of Finance, sources at the Finance Ministry said.
This grant assistance will be utilized for the preparation and finalization of detailed design of 36.8 km of Nepalthok-Khurkot segment of the Banepa Sindhuli Road Project.
After the completion of design work, the construction of the road will soon be initiated.
The construction of Banepa-Sindhuli Road Project was initiated in 1996 with the assistance of the Government of Japan and for the 37 km Bardibas-Sindhuli section. The construction of 50-km Nepalthok-Dhulikhel section has been already completed, whereas the 35.8 km long Sindhuli Bazar-Khurkot section is expected to be completed in March.
Japanese Ambassador Tatsuo Mizuno and Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Rameshore Prasad Khanal signed the exchange of notes, while, Krishna Gyawali, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Noriaki Niwa, Chief representative, JICA Nepal Office signed the grant agreement, on behalf of their respective governments.
The Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation to the people and the Government of Japan for this assistance and also for their continued support in the socio-economic development of Nepal, the Finance Ministry said.
