Course set for Japan-bound workers (Kantipur Daily)

The government has readied 219-hour training course for the workers leaving for Japan to work as industrial trainees under the Japan International Training Cooperation Organisation (JITCO) programme.According to the Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MoLTM), the course comprises 90 hours of training on Japanese language grammar, 90 hours for speaking and listening, 30 hours on culture, 6 hours for basic occupational terminology and 3 hours for knowing about Japanese food.
“We have prepared the course and forwarded it to the Japanese Embassy,” said Sthaneshwor Devkota, executive directive of the Foreign Employment Promotion Board, who is also the coordinator of the technical committee formed by the MoLTM to fix the course.
The committee includes representatives from the Japanese Embassy, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Japanese Language Teachers’ Association, Nepal.
Devkota said that the committee was planning to submit the course to the MoLTM by Tuesday. “I hope the course will be approved by the ministry by Friday.”
After the selection of individuals based on demand from Japanese firms, candidates have to complete this training from designated language institutes paying Rs. 7,000. However, the institutes who will be imparting the training have not been selected until now.
The 90-hour grammar course includes writing and reading. Aspiring candidates will spend 40 percent of teaching hours for theory and 60 percent in practical. Similarly, while undergoing listening and speaking courses, 30 percent of training hours has been fixed for theory and 70 percent for practical.
According to Devkota, the course has been readied incorporating the language training courses of JITCO and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
