Deadlock concerns diplomats (Kantipur News)

KATHMANDU, JUN 23 – At a time when the major political parties have locked horns over the implementation of the May-28 agreement, representatives of the diplomatic missions on Tuesday met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and other top political leaders to take stock of the latest political developments.
Ambassadors from China, the UK and Japan’s Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) discussed with the prime minister and other senior leaders separately on some crucial issues. Tadashi Fujiwara, DCM at the Japanese Embassy called on Prime Minister Nepal and discussed about Nepal-Japan friendship and issues of bilateral interests, said Nepal’s press advisor Bishnu Rijal. The prime minister informed the envoy of his efforts to forge consensus among the parties to draft the new constitution within the extended deadline, according to Rijal.
The Japanese diplomat expressed his commitment to continue supporting the government and political parties to conclude the peace process and statute drafting. Expressing his confidence that Nepal would head towards political stability and economic prosperity after promulgation of new constitution, Fujiwara assured Nepal of more active support in the future.
Likewise, Chinese Ambassador Qiu Guohong called on Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Ram Chandra Poudel and discussed about the latest political situation, including fate of the incumbent government, peace process and other issues. “The envoy was concerned over the protracted political deadlock and urged for consensus for political stability,” Poudel said.
Chinese envoy expressed his hope that his country was ready to extend support to Nepal if political stability would be resorted. Meanwhile, British Ambassador Dr Andrew Hall met UCPN (Maiost) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha and inquired of the latest political situations.
